About Me & My Practice

People who see me for the first time are often feeling overwhelmed, confused, depressed. or anxious. Some people are unable to sleep, have distressing thoughts, or cannot control troublesome habits and behaviors. Others have struggled with chronic pain do to injuries or medical illnesses. Many have endured the stigma of having a major mental illness which creates difficulties in their daily functioning, sudden mood swings, or poor judgement their reality testing. And others have functioned well with significant achievements in their careers, family, and relationships but still feel empty inside, and cannot experience pleasure, meaning, or fulfillment from their lives.

I utilize diverse approaches to facilitate healing. I tailor them to your particular goals and needs. Specialty areas include hypnosis for pain management, sleep difficulties, weight management, test anxiety, smoking cessation, severe anxiety and depression. I also have many years of experience using psychodynamic approaches to uncover patterns that have inhibited growth, and contemporary eastern approaches using mindfulness.

I believe that therapy begins with creating a safe and trusting relationship. More than any techniques, the relationship with the therapist is the most important factor in determining success in therapy. I listen in a way to understand my patients experiences while respecting their individuality. I've learned to not only make myself available as a doctor but also as a person in meeting my patients needs for support. I know how the healing process works since I have also been a patient and have struggled and worked with my own unique issues and difficulties in my life. I can guide you to help yourself, no matter how discouraged or hopeless you may feel about your situation. It takes courage to make a telephone call to a complete stranger asking for help. I also know from my work with hypnosis people have hidden strengths and personal resources that can be further developed in our work together.

I received my Ph.D. in clinical psychology in 1993 and have been a licensed psychologist in California since 1997. I have more than 20 years of diverse experience in mental health which includes both private practice and community mental health. I am also active in professional associations and am currently on the Board of Directors and the treasurer for the Southern California Society For Clinical Hypnosis. I am certified in Clinical Hypnosis by the American Society For Clinical Hypnosis.

My private practice is located in Beverly Hills and I accept some insurance plans. I will also provide a brief telephone consultation during the initial telephone call.
