About Me & My Practice

I specialize in working with Christians to help them recover from painful past hurts, heal broken relationships and strengthen positive life skills in order to help people live congruently with their core values and personal vision. I believe the client is the expert on his or her own experience and the therapist is the expert on relationship dynamics, defense mechanisms and communication. Together the client and therapist work together to address growth areas, make effective changes, break dysfunctional patterns and improve life skills.

You may ask why is it important to have a Christian psychotherapist? Every person has core values that he or she wants to live out. Our core values and beliefs affect our behaviors and choices. Often there is a breakdown in living congruently with core values because of how we were raised, past trauma and experiences that have shaped our perceptions and affected our choices. It is vital to have a therapist who understands and will support your strongly held values and Christian beliefs to help identify and repair the breakdown in values, perception and action.

My practice primarily consists of women in recovery from codependency issues, love addiction issues and emotional brokenness and couples ranging from emotionally volatile to barely surviving as roommates. I have helped many couples rebirth a relationship that has been devastated by the shock of infidelity and addiction. I also have run several treatment targeted groups for addictions such as food, sex and love.

I also have extensive experience helping children find their voice and identity after surviving painful events such as bullying, divorce and abuse. I use play therapy with children under about the age of twelve. Children use the language of "play" to express the unspoken pain and confusion and to work out the issues. A trained therapist is able to be present with your child and to reflect verbally what is being directly or indirectly expressed and presented in the session. Your child then feels safe and secure to process his or her own feelings and emotions as well as to learn new coping skills. Sometimes it is beneficial for the child to invite his or her parent into the session in order to have the freedom to express thoughts and feelings, to establish an emotional bond with mom or dad, and for the therapist to model how to allow your child to process through play. I also have a sandtray as a means of expression for the child. This can be extremely powerful vehicle of making the subconscious material conscious for children and adults alike.

I been in practice for over ten years and have two locations in Santa Monica and Westlake Village. I also train and supervise marriage and family therapist interns.
