About Me & My Practice

I believe that we all possess the innate ability to access our strengths, resources, intuition and knowledge in order to create the changes and growth we want in our lives in spite of life's present challenges or past trauma. I work collaboratively and compassionately with individuals, couples and families presenting with a broad range of concerns- anxiety, depression, addictive behaviors, trauma, life transition issues, stress and hurtful relational patterns.

Healing and change occurs within the context of relationships - the relationships with ourselves, our family, significant others and one's therapist. I am committed to supporting my clients in releasing self-defeating thoughts, beliefs, emotions and behaviors.

By developing insight and understanding, releasing self-judgments and acquiring the tools necessary to create healthy, caring relationships with ourselves and others, we can heal the legacies of trauma and find purpose and joy in life on all levels- physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual. We thus create an inner state of balance and well being.

I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a private psychotherapy practice in Santa Monica, CA. I received my Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and a Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology (with an emphasis in Spiritual Psychology) from the University of Santa Monica.

As a former successful business woman in the creative and marketing fields, I am well aware of the challenges that arise in finding the balance between career, relationships and family, and time for our personal and professional development. I am also aware of how hard it is to move forward when we continue to carry excess baggage of self judgment or shame.
My professional experience covers a wide range of mental health settings including: community mental health, substance abuse, psychiatric residential treatment facilities, non-profit organizations and private practice. I am also a clinician at the Center for Hope and Healing in Newport Beach, CA

I have traveled extensively and have lived abroad in many areas of the world including Europe, the Middle East and South America. I have been trained in both multi-cultural competence and awareness and am fluent in Spanish and French.

In my practice, I work from an evolving and expanding clinical and theoretical foundation that incorporates family systems, attachment theory, neurobiology and spiritual psychology. As a meditator for twenty years, I often incorporate mindfulness meditation as a means to creating an inner sense of connectedness.

Whereas pain might be the motivator to seek out therapy, it is our inner strengths and resources that allow us to begin to understand and deal with our issues. I support you in uncovering those resources, many of which have been buried under a blanket of judgment, shame and guilt related to your childhood, personal failures or addictions. When we act from that space of fear, anger or hopelessness, it is as if we are on auto pilot. Sometimes we are reacting from a much younger place in our lives when we truly had little or no control over our environment. Triggering events of the present awaken unproductive behavior patterns of the past and keep us from living from that space of our authentic selves.

I view the therapeutic relationship as a primary vehicle for positive change, self love and understanding. In an atmosphere of trust and openness, insight and empathy deepen and healing on all levels occurs. I provide a safe, caring environment of reciprocity for us to address those deeper needs which may underlie symptoms such as depression, anxiety, stress, anger, fear and conflicts in our relationships with others – often those whom we care for the most.

Regardless of the modality - individual, couples or family counseling, I support you in discovering and exploring your own individual healing pathways towards emotional freedom and wholeness.
