About Me & My Practice

My name is Shannon Byrnes and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a broad range of experience in private practice and clinical settings. I currently practice in Los Angeles and Old Town Pasadena. My background is strongly rooted in psychoanalysis and I believe growth and transformation result from an increased awareness and insight into self. Oftentimes a patient seeks therapy because they are in pain, feel stuck or unhappy or just want to feel more joy. I believe these clients can define and experience themselves in new and different ways through the development of a therapeutic relationship, and by exploring the process of reflection. When clients understand themselves more fully and experience themselves differently they begin to experience a sense of agency, or rational conscious choice. The desire to heal both emotionally and spiritually has led me down the path to psychotherapy. I truly admire those willing to embark on the courageous journey towards transformation, and I am honored to stand beside them in their quest for happier, healthier, more productive and successful lives.

I specialize working with adolescents, individuals and couples struggling with life transitions, depression, anxiety, trauma, body image, addiction and/or grief. I teach wellness education and parenting and facilitate women and adolescent groups. In addition, I supervise highly skilled and insightful interns.

My Los Angeles office is located on Santa Monica Blvd. between S. Bundy Dr. and Centinela Ave. It is handicapped accessible and has ample street parking and valet service for your convenience. My Pasadena location is in a historical building and is not handicap accessible. It located on Raymond Ave. between Colorado Blvd. and Green St. There is 90 minutes free parking in the parking structure directly across the street.

In preliminary sessions I assess if clients feel comfortable and whether I can provide a helpful service before we commit to a session plan. I encourage clients to talk about what brings them to therapy and what they hope to gain from it. I am available to discuss my therapeutic approach and what clients can expect based on my assessment and their treatment goals.
